A likable set of characters for a better than usual historical western. A tale of pleasant proportions, against the background of the Arizona desert. Gamaliel Ware, discharged from the Union Army after the Civil War, comes west, fired by the determination to make the desert bloom. He falls in love -- and he makes an enemy -- and these two factors motivate the story, which is built around the bringing in of water, achieving fertility for the desert land, and seeing the start of Phoenix. Ran in the Saturday Evening Post. Good Kelland, for those who like his Arizona stories.
