THE WORLD OF PLANT LIFE

Not a handbook for field trips but a reference book for everyone interested in country adventures. The author attempts to give the reader a speaking acquaintance with all types of plant life, from Coast to Coast. He wants to avoid the specialization that makes most books too limited in their use. He covers all areas, -- from forest to swamp, from desert to pond, and tries to be guided by popular taste. A book which the rankest amateur will find valuable. He describes plant families and their functions in nature; the colonization of an area; the struggle for survival, for food and sunlight and water. He shows where the plant world fits into the balanced scheme of things. A book for study before and after field trips.
