An unfortunate title for what is actually a valuable record of a high school student's exchange trip to Japan, made possible by an American Field Service scholarship. Peter Bell, from Gloucester, Massachusetts, kept a diary of his experiences, and this book by his mother is based on that material. His own curiosity and ability to adapt himself to circumstances enriched his account of life with his Japanese hosts, a typical Japanese family, and of the young people he not, their customs, their attitudes. As a record made by a contemporary, other high schoolers should find this intimate and fresh and revealing.
