KIRKUS REVIEW

This is a mansized collection of sports spectaculars written by such veterans as Red Smith, Grantland Arthur Daly, Jimmy Cannon -- features on the game itself and how it's played by such pros as Rickenbacker, Stirling Moss, Bobby Jones -- and of special pieces on prize fighting, hunting, fishing, baseball, horse racing and golf. In the miscellany, there are accounts of special events in bullfighting, flying, the Olympics, ice hockey, polo, tennis, wrestling, -- and fine profiles of a few all-time great sportsmen. There are no second string writers here -- a fact which insures a discriminating audience of enthusiasts of all ages.
