RETREAT TO VICTORY: The Life of Nathanael Greene

Email this review

Nathanael Greene's career as a Revolutionary general, with a few insights into his childhood and married life, is followed in detail here Strategy, the difficulty of providing supplies, and the intrigues of political power join charanterizations of the major figures and description of battles to form a precise account of Greene's part in the Revolution. A phony flashback device used in the first few chapters is abandoned later on, but the short choppy paragraphs and invented, sometimes regional dialogue persist. The only biography of Greene for this age group--may be read for information accumulation, not for pleasure.
