SAMUEL ADAMS: Son of Liberty by Clifford Lindsey Alderman

SAMUEL ADAMS: Son of Liberty

By

Pub Date: Oct. 9th, 1961
Publisher: Holt, Rinchart & Winston

After the briefest glance at Samuel Adams' carly career, this political portrait settles into a laudatory account of his role in the American Revolution. Confining himself to well established facts, Mr. Alderman includes enough background material to make each event meaningful, enough personal detail (e.g., the ""courting stick through which suitors of Sam's day could whisper to their well-chaperoned fiancees"") to catch the attention of young readers. The focus being almost entirely on Boston during the Revolution, this may amplify history texts on the period, but adds little to the popular picture of Samuel Adams, young America's ""Chief Incendiary"".
