Except for a mere five pages of update (Kelly's activities since 1974), this is by and large the same biography published in America by Regnery in 1975 (Kirkus, 1975, p. 280): a solid, if undistinguished, account of Kelly's early dancing-school years, his short but bright Broadway career, his Hollywood-musical triumphs as performer and innovative director, and his ups-and-downs since a career decline in the early Sixties. The current publisher, however, makes no reference whatsoever to the book's previous publication--an extreme case in the recent trend toward deceptive (or careless) promotion of reprints and revised editions--so readers should beware of unnecessary duplication.
