KIRKUS REVIEW

A frontier story of a period contemporaneous with the Civil War, and dealing with so-called ""copperheads"" of the Erie Canal district, and their westward trail to Nebraska where they find ways and means of making a living. The boy, who is the central figure, shares an unusual experience with a father too fond of the bottle, and with a mother who makes the family fortune out of the freighters while her husband waits for better things to turn up. A live bit of Americana, which should interest alert teen age boys and girls.
