JEREMY BELL by Clyde Brion Davis

Sam and Jeremy were chums, and still young enough to want to see a bit of the world before settling down to a trade in the small town of Dawn's Mill. They had their fill of adventure and misadventure in the process. They hated the Chicago which had been a dream; they signed up with a lumber company, thinking to earn some money in a slack season, only to find themselves wage slaves in the early days of industrial peonage, their futures mortgaged to the owners. They escape- are captured- break jail- and ride the rails to freedom. Good reading in Hairbreadth Harry tradition.
