A tale in close harmony, as two wastrels, both a bit too smart for their own good, swap stories about their adventures in the confidence game. Sullivan, who tells the story, goes his benefactor (to the tune of a ""lift"") one better by claiming the power of levitation. This is the slim connecting thread, as the story progresses across the Southwest, with Sullivan ""in training"" to demonstrate his prowess, and McKinley Williams sceptical, but having a bit of a laugh on the side. It is a bit rowdy, it is humorous, but it lacks the subtlety of Davis earlier work. There is something of Linklater in these picaresque adventures -- without Linklater's ultra-sophistication.
