Indigenous material, revived and rewritten, these accounts of the experiences of fur-traders Ross Cox and Alexander Ross have been combined from their own records which were published many years ago. Cox's story tells of his journey up the Columbia as a clerk in Astor's company, and the two weeks period in which he was lost in the wilderness; of constant fracases with the thieving Indians; of the loss of their boats; and the life of trapping and trading. Ross, who was a veteran and lived out 44 years of his life on the Indian frontiers of North America, married an Indian and fathered two half-breeds, and he also tells of the hazards of treacherous waters, the skirmishes with the Indians... Authentic Americana, of documentary rather than general interest.
