Though misleadingly subtitled ""The First 150 Years of the U.S. Military Academy"", and not at all a history of the school in the highlands of the Hudson, this is an excellent review of the post-graduate achievements on field of battle, in Indian terrority outpost, in the improvement of communications and transportation of the Point's great grade. Here are the achievements of Gen. Dennis Hart Mahan--father of the great Admiral -- whose teachings are still basic to the science of modern warfare; the West Pointers who labored to build the Cumberland Road; others who helped lay coast-to-coast telegraph and telephone communications; and the ones whose stories almost need no retelling--the giants of the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and the two World Wars. Well written and well-worthy as an introduction to military history and biography.
