Second volume in the proposed 10-volumes of integrated history of World War II- this concentrates on the land battles from D-Day to the fall of Germany. An introductory section gives the ""stalemate"" background which was broken by D-Day, but is insufficient to place the whole setting, the frame of reference, without referring back to its predecessor, which covered the land battles from 1939-1943. No more competent military historian than Col. Dupuy could have been selected, but one cannot help but wonder whether teenagers want- or will stay by- a long series such as this, no matter how well d one. Books to follow will cover air warfare, war in the Atlantic, in the Mediterranean and North Africa, in the Pacific- air, sea, and land. A formidable undertaking.
