A gagster's-eye-view of how the world might look If Dinosaurs Were Cats and Dogs. . .or, rather, if cats and dogs were as big as dinosaurs. McNaughton has cooked up a series of double-page pictures of giant animals in human settings, and fitted them out with mechanical four-line rhymes that describe or comment on the pictures. In the first, a boy reads by the fireplace on top of a huge sleeping cat that sports a row of stegasaurian plates, while the boy's mother, complete with pipe and slippers, reads the paper, and his mustached father irons pants in an apron. (Why he should don an apron to iron one can't say, except that it makes the switch look sillier.) Elsewhere a human pilot rides a ""leapfrog"" through the sky, a 29-foot caged parrot looks down at the circus in the bottom of its cage, kids sled and ski on a snow-covered tortoise, people bathe and boat in a goldfish bowl, and so on. It's all pretty forced and pointless.
