By

Publisher: Crown

Currier & Ives' prints have long been favorites with American collectors, more for their antiquarian interest than for their artistic value. Many of them are familiar through successive reproductions. But few people, other than connoiseurs, know that some 7000 different prints were made by the firm (first Currier, than in partnership with Ives), and numerous artists painted the originals from which the lithographic prints were made. Best known among these artists were Tait, Durrie, Palmer, Severin, Worth, Cameron, Parsons, Atwater- and the best of each of these artists are included in this ""treasury"" of 80 prints. American scene,-rural, urban, maritime, prairie. Some are included for their sentimental value which has been evidenced over the years by their popularity. The text not only describes the prints, but gives important informational data on the artist, the reproduction, the value.
