Collette Murphy, who spent part of sixth grade on an island (Murphy's Island, 1990) returns to Sacred Heart to discover that the cutest (male) teacher in school is an old buddy of her father's. This gains her the attention of eighth grader Sherri, and that leads to a rift with best friends Sarah and Marsha. If readers aren't tired of Collette's adventures by now, the repetitions and false leads here may do the trick. Marsha's whining about her project partner, Roger, is endless, and Collette's flattered acceptance of the manipulative Sherri's friendship never seems credible. On to seventh grade? (Fiction. 8-11)
