KIRKUS REVIEW

The Holiday Magazine Language Series grew out of Professor Pei's articles in Holiday on the principal languages of the worlds. These articles comprise the opening chapter in each Getting Along book of which this is the third. Obviously geared to accommodate the English-speaking traveler in Germany, the novice learns how to find a good hotel, to order food, to make arrangements, to take care of emergencies, etc. The translations are accompanied by a phonetic transcription and followed by a grammar digest and a two-way vocabulary. The last two items benefit the more ambitious student but they are not mandatory.
