Brief is the glory and short the span""--this from the introductory poem by Mr. Gluyas--of the dual story of Pietro, a matador's son, and Matt, a ""Negro,"" who meet initially at an orphanage, become firm friends, go to the U.S. together, have a double wedding (both marriages turn out badly), find themselves in the hospital together (different ailments) while Matt dies alone.
