OUR SUMMER WITH THE ESKIMOS

The Alaskan travelers in search of a new home site as they plan their summer life on the Arctic Ocean. Leaving the Endicott Mountains of the great Arctic Brooks Range, they hit civilization for needed supplies and equipment, learn they must fly to their taking off spot on the Colville River, if they are to canoe to its mouth in time to make possible their summer stay. This accomplished, they set themselves up near Beechey Point and a trading post, learn the ways of Eskimo living, hunting, and dressing, find out the secrets of ice and manoeuvering through it, make a trip to Point Barrow in a whaleboat, and revise their diet once again. With the ending of summer they decide to go Eskimo all the way and camp with them in the snow... Adding to their knowledge of keeping things simple, of living according to the land's demands, of using Eskimo ways, this couple manages an intimate picture of Arctic life, with real understanding of the people and their country. Earlier books have prepared a market for this; a new market is ready in that the material here is comparatively little known.
