Interesting material of Americana type, of special value to those concerned with the strange backwaters of the period 1850-1880. The story of a Commune, a synthesis of the spiritually inclined groups that were active during that time. The Commune, at the start of the story, is running smoothly, when a newcomer injects an element which undermines the leaders' teachings. The son of the leader takes a hand, and his romance makes a slender thread woven through the pattern of the presentation of commune life in a state of flux. Somewhat limited in appeal, though it has a place.
