A romantic novel with a wider appeal than the author's Graham of Claverhouse. Grand reading for those moments when problems of a remote period (17th century) and place (Scotland) seem preferable to today, and escape into romance and adventure is a panacea. A blood feud between the MacGregors and the Lowland clans forms the background for the stormy and checkered love of a Lowland girl and a Highland youth. It has all the ingredients and is done with just the right flair and gusto.
