KIRKUS REVIEW

The greater part is a sedate discourse on the life and work of the author, conveying the particulars but much less of the character of her family or the force of her personality than either We Alcotts or Miss Meigs' own Invincible Louisa. Following is a discussion of ""The American Family Story"" before and after Alcott and concluding with Estes, Enright and Wilder; a bibliography is appended. Whether or not the text was written some time ago (as per reference to ""the current movie star, Mary Pickford""), it has no ring of contemporaneity. Little appeal, then, except for cut-and-dried reference -- or, quixotically, for an older purview.
