KIRKUS REVIEW

There is less of history and more of life in this than in many of Cornelia Melg excellent pictures of American life of days past. The setting is the Mississippi, at the height of the river boats, and the story revolves around a headstrong, self-centered boy, who is expelled from school and who finds himself during his months in the engine room, and later as pilot, on the queen boat of the river. There's plenty of adventure and a bit of mystery as well. Good tale.
