Bishop Harrell, of the Methodist Church, sets out to speak boldly into the confusion of our world the great Christian affirmations about God, man and ultimate values. Far from a treatise in dogmatic theology, this is rather a selection from the great Christian truths, proclaimed in the manner of a preacher writing essays. Actually this book improves when read aloud. Bishop Harrell addresses himself to the flock, rather than to the shepherds, and the result is a lucid book about the Christian faith, which makes no attempt to be comprehensive, but is certainly stimulating and also sufficient to meet the questions asked by the average layman. Of special interest are the chapters on The Holy Spirit and The Kingdom. The book would be strengthened by a chapter on the faith and a broken society.
