FRESHMAN FORWARD

The resentment of a basketball team composed of juniors and seniors toward ninth-grade Randy Hawley is composed half of disdain and half of envy. Torn between two extremes--the wish to prove himself and the wish to be inconspicuous--Randy, a basketball genius, very nearly destroys his game. But an understanding coach helps him to accept his importance to the team and to distinguish between conceit and self appreciation. A good sport's story with an interesting emotional counterpoint.
