This for the connoisseur, or one who years to be so acclaimed- from a connoisseur who has captured the aroma, the bouquet of France. This is a travel guide, wine oriented, the length and breadth of those regions that have become famous for their vineyards. In the process e teaches one the nomenclature- with all its complexities; he never attempts to oversimplify but leaves one with a feeling that it is worth the effort. M dar to downgrade and upgrade established wines; he gives minor and local wines their due. He discusses the making of wine- the magic of a bit of land and soil. He provides lists graded- so that some 900 imported French Wines can be identified here. He provides the knowhow and the space for keeping records and notations. And he goes into not only selection but care and serving of wines. He gives one sympathy and understanding for the traditions and the aboos. And he provides a Bibliography for those who would go farther. Samuel Chamberlain has written an introduction.
