THIS IS THE NAVY

The author of Fighting Fleets and of Merchant Fleets for adults does an excellent job of presenting our vast and complex navy in eye-catching photographs (official) and clear simple text for juniors. Interesting and not too technical -- a reference book for consultation rather than a book for reading. The material is organized and arranged alphabetically:- Ammunition, Amphibious craft, Anchors etc. -- with accompanying photographs and captions. Some of the topics included seem irrelevant, but on the whole, it is surprising what a wide range of information is included, and there is usually some salient fact brought out under what seems an unimportant heading. For reading purposes, an internal plan would have been more interesting, but this serves a real purpose.
