THE AMAZING THE INCREDIBLE SUPER DOG

A small girl touts the prowess of her dog, meanwhile demonstrating his marvelous tricks: headstands, flips, etc. Her scorned cat and a bystander bird do all the tricks faultlessly, unappreciated and unobserved; the dog lazily considers a butterfly and falls asleep. Bonsall's bright, cartoon-like illustrations capture the child's boastfulness, the puppy's complacent insouciance, the cat's plaintive but futile hope for well-deserved recognition. A simple, entertaining fable about virtue unrewarded, a dose of one of life's unpleasant truths with enough humor to make it painless. Not published as an easy reader, but could be used as one.
