A fellow of Magdalene College. Cambridge, C.S. Lewis is well known in America from some of his earlier writings, notably. The Screw Tape Letters. He has authorized the abridgement of his larger book of the same title for use in a paperback edition included in the series of Reflection Books. In this closely knit argument in support of a belief in miracles, Lewis displays a philosophical turn of mind and a penchant for whimsical illustration which help to make this interesting reading. Lewis answers affirmatively the question as to whether God can and would supplement or correct or interfere with the interlocking system which we call the "order of Nature" by feeding new events into the system which he has made. Even those who would have difficulty with the author's philosophical presuppositions would find his argument interesting and ingenious, while others would, of course, welcome this buttress to their faith.
