Curt Anders (Fighting Generals, Fighting Airmen) proceeds to Fighting Confederates in a parade march of men of valor, 'There was Jefferson Davis, who recognized the doom he was summoned to as President of the Confederacy: Joseph E. Johnston, who died at eighty-four from dutifully appearing at General Sherman's funeral and catching his death of cold; Nathan B. Forrest, a genius for strategy unkindly recalled for ""Get thar fustest with the mostest,"" Jeb ""Beauty"" Stuart, who dallied with the ladies but never drank, died gallantly at thirty-one; Thomas Jonathan Jackson, better known as Stonewall who proved that ""You can be whatever you resolve to be,"" and finally General Robert E. Lee, who ""may well have been one of these rare people who are great for all time."" Anders refights the war with these men. Their memory will outlast his tribute, which is perhaps a stripe above his earlier books.
