By the author of Little Leaguer, Larry of Little League, etc. this de another baseball season with another set of boys. Here the central figure is Dave Owen who's too fat and can't seem to get his weight down. Having been apathetic about sports all his life, because he known it won't do any good to try, Dave gets impetus to action when a new boy, Jim Controll, moves to town and persuades Dave to catch for him so he can practise pitching for Little League tryouts. Experiencing someone's faith in him for the first time, Dave goes through a remarkable transrmation, makes a team and even helps to win a championship. A good Bishop story, this seems to be less stilted in dialogue than his other books have been.
