There's a new approach to Mexican life in this story, for it is a tale of a ten year old Mexican lad who spends part of his year with Americans, and has a chance to see the contrast in two ways of life. The details of Mexican life are well handled, but one feels, most of the time, that the approach is distinctly from the outside looking in. It hasn't that quality which endeared That Mario to his readers. Pedro might be any little boy. The illustrations by Karl Larsson are excellent and reenforce the local color and the Mexican quality which the text somehow lacks.
