Gearing information for the average rather than the science-minded student, the authors invite him for a guided tour of the oceans. To interest him in the treasures that can be found beneath the waters, they describe the astonishing hauls of several fishermen -- the coelacanth fossil fish caught in 1938 for example. The explorers of the deep -- biologists, skin divers, etc., and their vital instruments are revealed in an expedition to the South Atlantic. A second expedition to the coast of Norway describes the art of whaling. The remainder of the text is devoted to a survey of ocean products,- animal, vegetable and mineral- and the possibilities for future development. Simple, factual and well-written.
