THE MAN FROM MISSOURI

Published by the Mark Twain Society, its head the author of this biography of Harry S. Truman. He offers nothing new, nor does he compete seriously with Messrs. McMaughton and Hehmeyer, which was a more professional job. From conversations and correspondence with Truman's contemporaries, friends, politicians, etc.; with quotations from various addresses and speeches throughout his career; this builds a portrait of boy-to-man, reconstructs his performance as farmer, soldier, county judge, senator, as head of the Truman Committee, as campaigner for the Vice-Presidency, and finally as President. A outine laudatory job -- for the record.
