THE BATTLE OF CAPORETTO

A further volume in the Great Battles of History series under the general editorship of Hanson Baldwin, which has included Guadalcanal, the Marne, Anzio, and Cyril Falls' own Armageddon- 1018, etc. This covers the Austro-German offensive against the Italians in 1917 which resulted in the Italians' rout, then regrouping to fend off the offensive and turn the victory needed ""in order to prevent the collapse of Austria-Hungary"" to defeat. It also saw the emergence of Rommel as a brilliant tactician. Falls (with The Great War behind him- 1959) and the series both enjoy solid reputations.
