KIRKUS REVIEW

Historical romance that spans Rome, Paris and London in the mid-19th century, with Italy's devious battle for freedom, Napoleon III's strategy, political, economic and military, and over 700 pages of story, characters, battles and star-crossed lovers. Deodato; a foundling, escapes the religious order to which he had been assigned, to pursue his love of sculpture (and incidentally of Ludovica). He follows a devious trail, with the help of Napoleon III discovers his father's identity, and becomes embroiled in political intrigue. Murray is the author of three other historical romances. He has a greater gift for period than for plot.
