AS SEEING THE INVISIBLE

The Book of Revelation is expounded by D. T. Niles in a unique and absorbing way. The first half of this volume follows a standard pattern: a setting forth of the date, authorship and historical occasion for the Book, followed by a section by section exegetical treatment. Then comes a surprise as Dr. Niles treats of the relationship between the form of the book and the message of the book. How St. John the Divine worked out a weekly sequence, and also gave the old Hebrews' Feast and Fast Days a new meaning and purpose gives us a unique approach to the Book of Revelation which seems long overdue. Then comes yet another surprise section as Dr. Niles works out a series of Theological Meditations, wherein the material is reviewed once again, but this time in a devotional manner. Dr. Niles ministry was in his native Ceylon until 1959 when he was called to be the first general secretary of the East Asia Christian Conference. In 1960 he served as Harry Emerson Fosdick Visiting Professor at New York's Union Theological Seminary. The approach to the Book of Revelation reveals his fine scholarship, piety and unusually wide experience.
