If confusion adds up to a good mystery- this ranks high. All the ingredients are here:- a body in the lake, a summer cabin occupied in winter, a lost diamond ring found in the wainscotting of said cabin, an abnormal mother- son relationship- and an ambitious wife at odds with her mother-in-law, another corpse-this one propped against a door, said deader's wife tied up in the trunk of a car, a reward starting various people on mutually cross-wiring hunts, a red herring in an arbitrary jail sentence executed in Mexico, newspaper men involved in all events, blackmail, forged checks, etc., etc., etc. Ask for it- and there it is. The makings of a half dozen stories- but the death sentence of one.
