A trim, attention-holding adventure, based on the reported true experience of 12-year-old Norwegian Arne Kristiansen who stayed behind in Arctic Longyerbyen, when British ships evacuated the village in expectation of a Nazi takeover. Unknown to the townspeople, Arne's father, a glacialist on a field trip further North, was a wanted resistance worker; and so, to prevent his returning to an occupied Longyerbyen and certain arrest, Arne determines to ski for 200 miles to warn him. Barely surviving thin ice and blizzard, Arne meets an able and helpful trapper who proposes to take Arne to his father. But is he a trapper? Arne's snooping in the but turns up old German snapshots. . . but his decision to trust the man proves wise, the mission succeeds, and Fife appends a gratifying report of their postwar reunion. Well done.
