Another western by the author of The Johnny Cake Mine (1954, p. 120) follows young Rob Norwood on his long hunt for the men who falsely testified against his father in a stagecoach robbery. The scene is Montana territory between Virginia City and Bannock. A social outcast himself, Rob finds work with Mr. Thomas, a Kentuckian who has just come to breed a new string of horses out west. As he works, slowly gaining a respectable position, Rob's suspicions narrow around Dan Hummer, his father's former partner. In a clue-to-clue chase involving horse theft and a posse, Rob clears his record for good and gains a future with the Thomases.
