KIRKUS REVIEW

Spoof of Russia today, which is a straight-faced take-off on the industrial, economic, social, emotional aspects of Russian life. Anna, a factory worker, falls in love with a soldier and petted son, and through his sister becomes a heroine and famous figure. She is imprisoned -- when released she married Alexei, who goes to fight in Spain. Against this thinnish plot, the polar extremities of Russian feeling are contrasted, displayed and lampooned. Some amusement -- but of limited market.
