This promotes a technique known as Rapid Cognitive Therapy, which its originators (the authors) claim has helped people to overcome their emotional problems fast. Problems are caused by people's beliefs that they need to change either themselves, others, or the world to be happy. This erroneous belief causes emotional distress. To counter this, the authors invoke what they term ""the choice system,"" rather than ""the change system."" Being at choice generates acceptance, energy, knowledge, resourcefulness, cooperation, success, self-esteem, intimacy, sense of self, and ""laser communication."" Professional encounter group clientele will recognize most of these precepts and the jargon that is used to propagate them. The danger lies in expecting instant relief. When it doesn't come, frustration can easily set in. That's the caveat for this otherwise-sensible book.
