THE WORLD OF UFOs by Daniel Cohen

Email this review

Case by case Cohen points out how most reported UFO sightings have been frauds or misinterpretations; the unexplained remainder are classed simply as ""still debated"" and not played up for ambiguous sensation. Further, Cohen repeatedly points to UFO enthusiasts' ignoring of negative evidence; he debunks favorite ""proofs"" and dismisses prominent crackpots (Van Daniken); and neither his reportage of disputes within and without official investigating circles nor his citation of theories linking UFOs to everything from the Kennedy assassinations and Watergate to the Loch Ness monster and Irish fairies would tend to encourage credulity. As with Cohen's own Ancient Visitors (1976), the only question concerns the need to rake over the same old coals yet again; however, where the demand for further close encounters is compelling, this will serve.
