This book is a disgrace. The authors, ostensibly out to explain the various myths surrounding our cultural ""revulsion from excrement,"" have succeeded only in producing an incomprehensible mass, the main idea of which seems to have been to exercise their glee in the use of vulgar language. Nothing in this is quotable in the interest of good taste. Even the introduction--by Abby Rockefeller, whose credentials are as obscure as the author's message--boasts a disclaimer: she cautions us to heed the theme, rather than the language. Here, it's impossible.
