Daniel, even if he is the father of five little gifts and about to be the father of still another, was arrested at the hump of puberty and is full of unsatisfied lusts (resenting that wife who is too often a mother) and dreams. Like going to see the wizard and finding a little magic. Mostly this novel -- too substantial a word for this spaced-out safari to Maine with an old, good friend -- is filled with his sexual preoccupations with another woman, Sally, a messy encounter with some druggies on motorbikes, getting ""hickeyed by a giant whore"" (oh, those ""wonderful things he does"") but by the time he returns home he's had his magic -- just to touch Sally, naked. Now it's your turn to be a whiz of a wizard and just make it disappear.
