GUYS FROM SPACE by Daniel Pinkwater

Email this review

In simple, childlike prose that suits this picture book for use as an easy reader, a small boy tells how ""something big"" comes down in his back yard and how--with his preoccupied mother's permission--the ""guys"" (four green-faced Pinkwater look-alikes) on it take him for a ride to another planet. He does need a helmet, but an inverted dog-dish does just fine. After investigating the indigenous talking rocks and root-beer stand there, the boy is returned home while the space ship goes back to its own planet to report on putting ice cream in root beer. Wry and quietly funny, with typical Pinkwater-zany, cartoonlike illustrations, this will be sure to tickle young space fans.
