Weird and macabre stories of the Indian underworld and overworld, by the former editor of The Times of India. A wealth of material on Indian ritual and superstition, commingled with inexplicable occult manifestations which the author has personally witnessed. Magic, black and otherwise, levitation, sleight of hand, the brotherhood of crime and sorcery, human and animal sacrifice, tabus, phenomena of all sorts. Behind all this, the author gives the legendary and religious background for Indian beliefs and behaviour, and makes up a good case for the strange occurrences in India, in spite of showing up the chicanery and trickery of the fakir world. Somewhat lurid reading.
