DINOSAURS AND OTHER PREHISTORIC ANIMALS

Next to a protracted visit to the dinosaur rooms of the Museum of Natural History, this animated text on prehistoric animals offers the young reader more insight into their appearance, habits, and temperaments than most available works at this age level. Where it is possible, the achievement of men is integrated into the study so that the remoteness of the times being discussed will seem less forbidding. R. F. Peterson, an artist who has done much work for the American Museum of Natural History, draws his subjects with unembarrassed vigor, and of his 35 black and white illustrations and 25 four-color drawings, form a visual world to accompany the animated text of the author. An attractive book which capitalizes on the popularity of the subject and does not, for all the facts it imparts, ever sink to a pedestrian level.
