THE FEAR MAKERS

Returned casualty, facing a final brain operation, hero Captain Eaton, intent on heading West and home, finds that his partner in a poll interpretation business, has been killed, and that the business is being perverted and wartime propaganda techniques are being used to influence public opinion in prejudice, bias and disruption. He is kept on in Washington by one incident after another -- he falls in love with a lovely Jewish refugee, constantly combats the implication that his loss of memory has affected his mind, and finally ties together the loose threads of a widespread threat to unity, and is able to face his last operation with a sense of assurance and safety. A tangential style sleeks up the action...counterirritant for homefront problems.
