KIRKUS REVIEW

As a young couple, the Conovers bought Wallace Island, B.C., Canada, determined to live there and make a living from it. They found that an island ""is a ship always at sea,"" that they would live or die by their wits ...and David coped. Same included fighting gales aboard Bertha the out-board, rescue from a well, plumbing, mortgages and eventually resort guests of various ilks. The Conovers stuck out personal storms too, came up smiling. Twenty years later, they are still ""sealanders"" whose story will appeal to those who want to escape to reality.
